Sandra Robertson, the heart and soul of Studio OzMosaics, has been living and breathing mosaics for over two decades. Her passion for the art form is infectious, transforming her Brisbane studio into a vibrant hub of creativity, camaraderie, and ceaseless innovation.
The Studio
The OzMosaics studio is more than just a workspace; itโs a sanctuary for mosaic enthusiasts. Visitors and students are welcomed into a treasure trove of mosaic wonders, complete with a mosaic-themed B&B. The studio thrives on a unique blend of energy, generosity, and fun, making it a haven for mosaic addicts.

Sandyโs mosaic masterpieces span a wide range of styles and applications. From private commissions to public art installations, her work graces galleries, commercial spaces, and community projects. Her dedication to sharing the joy of mosaics is evident in her engaging workshops, which welcome people of all ages and from all walks of life.
The Techniques
Sandyโs approach to mosaics is as diverse as the materials she uses. From 3D creations to thinset techniques, her work is a testament to her versatility and creativity. She finds inspiration in the unexpected, transforming everyday items like wine bottles, rusted objects, and slate into stunning tesserae. Her legendary stash of materials includes Dynasty smalti, glass, ceramic, stone, rock, and mirror, among others.
The Philosophy
Known affectionately as the โChina Whisperer,โ Sandy encourages her students to look beyond the obvious, to explore the rawness, the inside out, and the upside down. Her work is inspired by nature, travel, Cubism, the Australian outback, her mindโs eye, dreams, people, storytelling, and a vivid imagination. Her mantra, โto go against the mosaic grain,โ keeps her on the cutting edge of the art form, skillfully blending modern and ancient mosaic techniques, tools, substrates, and materials.
The Legacy
Sandyโs mosaic projects can be found far and wide, from Christmas Island and Norfolk Island to Queenโs Park in Ipswich, Australia Zoo, Hong Kong, Woorabinda, Theodore, University of Queensland, Brisbane City Council, Biloela, Marion Valley, Carseldine, Meandarra, and Mundubbera, to name just a few. Many of her amazing murals are installed in Schools, Churches, Kindgergartens, Parks and private homes and gardens. Her upcoming mosaic online school, The MOS, the Mosaic Guru extends her reach even further, bringing her expertise and passion for mosaics to students around the world. She is the wizard of MOS!
