Glossaries - The Mosaic Mall Glossary
  • Vitreous glass tiles are thin, square mosaic tesserae.
  • One side is normally curved (bevelled) and back-ridged for better grip on the adhesive.
  • The top side (surface) face is flat.
  • These tiles can be cut and shaped with tile nippers (Leponitt mosaic wheeled nippers are recommended) and offer a wide range of colours.
  • Some vitreous mosaic glass tiles have textured, grainy surfaces and others are smooth, non-pitted. Both are used to advantage in mosaics by clever artists, for shading and special effects.
  • Mix + matching vitreous tiles and other tesserae produces exciting mosaic artworks.
  • Advantages are the durability of the material (suitable for outdoor use), and the fact that they produce an even, flat finished surface.
  • For these reasons, they are also used as a building material for cladding and decoration, and are perfect for mosaic art and craft.
  • The Mosaic Mall stocks quality mosaic vitreous glass tiles and are suitable for beginners to professional mosaic artists and enthusiasts.
    Our size range includes:
